Carte Blanche voor Heinz Holliger (2019)

Heinz Holliger soleert op hobo en dirigeert het New European Ensemble tijdens het project Carte Blanche voor Heinz Holliger.

“New Notes, about this concert.”

A bullseye of a concert. The New European Ensemble once again shows here that it has meanwhile grown into one of the finest ensembles in the Netherlands, and seeing Holliger conduct and perform is a gift in itself. It is also good that we get to hear works by this man for a change, as that happens far too rarely in the Netherlands.

An experience that brought new insights to both audience and musicians.

Carte Blanche for Heinz Holliger.
One of the highlights of the year was the collaboration with the impressive and world-famous 80-year-old composer, conductor and oboist Heinz Holliger, with concerts in Utrecht, Arnhem and The Hague. Holliger conducted his own works and conducted and appeared as soloist in works by important composer friends, including György Ligeti, Witold Lutosławski and Elliott Carter. Working with Holliger was a learning process for the ensemble. His vast knowledge of 20th-century music, instrumental technique and flawless ear provided new insights and experiences for both musicians and audience.
